Cannot access Lotus Notes server while Amahi server is up

I contract to IBM and sometimes work from home. My IBM supplied laptop uses an AT & T dialer to login to the IBM VPN server once I'm connected to my LAN. I then start Lotus Notes to start working. When the Amahi server is running, I cannot connect to the Lotus Notes servers. The workaround is to...

None of the methods works - shutdown or reboot still hangs even after updating.

Admittedly it's not a huge deal - but I don't like software that doesn't behave. :-(

Thank you for the suggestions - I'm updating Fedora with yum and hoping that helps.

RE: shutdown - I am attempting shutdown from the local machine (System > Shutdown) and not via the Amahi dashboard.

After installing Amahi, the computer will not shut down. When told to reboot or shut down, there's a snap sound, the monitor goes black, and the Caps Lock and Scroll Lock keyboard LEDs start blinking in unison.
