If you look at the pastebin, the connectivity test failed after the pings left his home network. The ISP was probably having some routing issues that they esolved.

There are ways around it but not simple for a Novice to be honest.
You would need to setup your VPN to use NAT. Not easily accoumplished using consumer network hardware.

i think you can just move the files to your desktop using the 3TB drive........ format and install amahi on the server, move the data back and add the 3TB drive? or if you give the amahi VM direct access to the 3TB drive and transfer the datat to it, you can just plug it in and do an --fsck and let ...

the main reason i would go to PM rather than ESXi is the limitations. Specifically the 4 vCPU limit. You cant do much with 4 cores....maybe 4 machines. For me I have the following i run virtual: 1. Amahi 2. Vyatta 3. Windows Media Center 4. Home Automation Server 5. FTP Server hosted for work I want...
