Re: Install partitioning with Greyhole in mind.

My "torrents" and "downloads" shares aren't in the storage pool so the non-landing-zone disks should be off most of the time for me too.

Re: Landing zone is full. Can't do anything.

I didn't do anything special during setup. I think greyhole uses /var/hda/files as the landing zone by default and if you follow the detailed Amahi install instructions ( here ) you'll have /var/hda/files as its own partition. So, you can just add /var/hda/files to the storage pool like this: Greyho...

Re: Install partitioning with Greyhole in mind.

I don't know if there's a downside but I do something that I don't see mentioned often here: I have the landing zone in my storage pool. This way, I never have to wait for copies to be made and balancing to occur; it's done instantly. I also don't have to worry about whether to have a small landing ...

Re: how to get fire fox 6 on to Amahi box ?

I ran the following commands (as root and in this order) to get Firefox 6.0.2 on my file server: tar -cvzf $HOME/mozilla-firefox-profiles-backup.tar.gz $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/ rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfu...

Re: Free Space Discrepancy (Actual vs Amahi Dashboard)

Aha, I think I have found why this is happening: http://bugs.amahi.org/issues/show/693 I shall try changing the reserved space to 1% or something because on drives this big, 5% is ridiculous. Does anyone know what the reserved space is actually for and if there's any disadvantage to turning it off c...

Re: Hardware Recommendations for a New User

I chose an AMD E-350 for low power usage. £190 up front for this hardware (minus the HDDs, already had those): - £104: Asus E35M1-M Pro (fanless, 6 SATA ports and good number of expansion options) - £45: Huntkey Jumper 300G (high efficiency even at 10% power draw, which is what I'm using) - £30: Xig...

Re: Landing zone is full. Can't do anything.

You could just use one of your 2 TB HDDs as a landing zone and have it be part of your greyhole storage pool. That's what I've done; my primary 1.5 TB HDD is split into: - Page/Swap Partition (4 GiB) - Root (10 GiB) - Home (20 GiB) - Greyhole Landing Zone (1.3 TiB) where the 1.3 TiB partition is als...

Free Space Discrepancy (Actual vs Amahi Dashboard)

Hi, I have 3 partitions in my Greyhole storage pool, all on different drives: - var/hda/files (also my landing zone) - var/hda/files/drives/drive1 - var/hda/files/drives/drive2 The Amahi dashboard claims there's plenty of space for new files: Amahi Home Server › Storage - Mozilla Firefox.png However...

Re: Transfer Speed

After setting up my new Gigabit switch (which arrived 5 days late), I was getting transfers of ~35 MB/s. I then enabled jumbo frames of 9014 B on my client machine (Windows 7) and speeds improved to ~60 MB/s. After two hours of work I managed to install the latest Realtek drivers for my server's NIC...

Re: Transfer Speed

I followed the guide (http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/HowTo_Webmin) but I got a 404 error the first few times I did this: rpm --import http://www.webmin.com/jcameron-key.asc It worked the on 4th try but now I just get this when trying to install it through yum: Repository 'Webmin': Error parsing co...
