Re: DNS Issues with 2 Amahi instances

not sure why your host file isn't working there. simply add an ip to it, use tab and then the hostname as you have above. eg 192.168.1.2 transmission.home.com (make sure there is a gap between the ip and hostname) for good measure (although i'm not sure it will make a difference) do an ipconfig /flu...

Re: DNS Issues with 2 Amahi instances

host files are normally set on clients not servers although i've never ever tried to see what would happen if you put an entry into the dns server host file and the effect it would have. not sure if the host file on a dns server would overide the dns server although i don't see why not?? your client...

Re: Outbound Network Issue?

true..... just spotted that in the post. you can safely leave the dns running. it doesn't matter how many dns servers you have on your network. dhcp is another matter so it's best to have only one for a basic config. why not have a look at your router and see if you can get it's dhcp server to lease...

Re: Outbound Network Issue?

chkconfig named --list (to see what level your dns server runs at eg runlevel 3)
chkconfig --level 35 named on (to turn it on automatically for runlevel 3&5)

Re: Outbound Network Issue?

you need to check your resolv.conf file. type: vi /etc/resolv.conf in there you should see something like: search <yourdomainname> nameserver 192.168.1.10 if it's empty, that's where your problem lies so you need to enter edit mode on vi: type i & enter now enter your details on each line (like ...

Re: May Love Amahi, DHCP and DNS Handing...Not So Much

generally, you can work around these issues manually. when an app is installed in amahi, it writes to dns so ampache goes in as for example ampache.home.com = your hda ip an entry is also made with apaches virtual servers & host headers etc. so now that you are using amahi's dns, entering ampach...

Re: Outbound Network Issue?

ok, time to get a little bit more complex. seeing as your hda is working, there's no need to check for the ip of the hda itself to confirm it's correct. so the next step is to look at the gateway or dns. from the cli or shell on the hda..... type: ping -c 4 192.168.1.1 (to make sure you can reach yo...

Re: Transfer speeds?

also use iperf to test rather than rely on windows. it's extremely easy to use. on amahi: yum install iperf iperf -s on windows: download and follow instructions from http://linhost.info/2010/02/iperf-on-windows/ and more detailed instructions (although still easy) http://openmaniak.com/iperf.php th...

Re: Outbound Network Issue?

well, it don't look like amahi itself. so, simply without doing any cli etc, reboot your router.
just pull the power cord at the back out, give it a few seconds and plug it back in.
let us know how you get on with that before moving into anything a little more complex.
