If you are going that route, you should check out Element OS, it has XBMC pre-installed and many other cool features.

Sounds like a cool project! I haven't heard of anyone doing it yet. If you can boot to CD, you can use the Express CD http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Express_CD for a headless install. And it would be great if you could document your experience in the Wiki.

Make sure you read the Port Forward instructions carefully for Adito. I believe you need to port external port 443 to internal port 4443. http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Adito

The port forwarding on Adito is a little tricky. Make sure you are forwarding port 443 public(external) to 4443 private (internal) to the HDA server IP address using TCP traffic type.

Have you tried pinging your "username.yourhda.com" name and seeing what that IP resolves to? DynDNS should be keeping it up to date.
