So if I do not forward the port (haven't set it up yet) and just stick with VPN then I shouldn't have any security issues? I am wanting to keep my server secure and really only accessible on my network. Just wanting to use it to perform backup operations and possibly media streaming to my TV.

Thanks for the link. I read through it and it sounds like if I did not set up the port forwarding on my router then the dynamic link will not work external to my network.
