Re: Using Amahi as an FTP (TFTP) server Any suggestions?
please be aware that a TFTP server is different from a normal FTP server, and are therefore different packages. For your FTP needs you can install something from the dashboard, for TFTP you can do a "yum search tftp" as root on your servers terminal, you should see a tftp server coming by ...

Re: Would like to minimize active processes
Please note that disabling some of those daemons will break certain functionalities in Amahi! absolutely. definitely. unequivocally. surely. without a doubt. So make sure you know your current config and test everything before making changes permanent. Document your changes. Change only 1 thing per ...

Re: Would like to minimize active processes
Good, so now you know why you wouldn't want to do this. You have mastered unix apprenticeship level 1 and you can proceed to level 2: doing it anyway just because you can (and learn from it!) :ugeek: Here's a good guide: http://www.imminentweb.com/technologies/centos-disable-unneeded-services-boot-t...

Re: Could SOPA close down Amahi?
From what I understand of the SOPA & PIPA bills yes they could. If they just blindly spider the website for certain keywords and would request the blackout without interpreting them first it is very likely even. Then again, almost all websites may fall victim to this. You could even write a bad ...

Re: Would like to minimize active processes
I'm guessing the reason why you're wanting this is because of all the non-critical processes a typical Windows install starts which you don't want to have active if you don't need them. Linux works a bit differently. Typically only the necessary services are run. There may be some services that are ...

Re: Amahi Drive planning
I agree. If you understand the concept of LVM, you gain lots of flexibility and the option to configure everything exactly the way you want. Greyhole makes disk management transparent to users (IMO at the expense of flexibility/configurability). Personally I use LVM and I have Greyhole disabled. Mos...

Re: HDA shuts down during boot
Hmmm that means you get at least past GRUB since you see the loading bars for Fedora. you can try pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 (or F2, F3 etc.) until you see the boot messages roll by, you should at least get the idea where it hangs. Alternatively you can edit /boot/grub/menu.lst (if you have a succesful bo...

Re: gigabit card not in gigabit mode, only 100Mb/s
hmmm weird. You should be able to set it with the ethtool options I gave you, but why it changes? Some switches/routers have a powersaving "feature" which throttles the ports down to a lower speed (difference between 100Mbps and 1000Mbps is a whopping 1W/h), you may want to check that sinc...

Re: gigabit card not in gigabit mode, only 100Mb/s
ah, then probably the system has allocated the correct driver instead of a generic one, or it was updated.
