Re: ubuntu+headless+desktop
As I said, just my opinion. I based it off of our past history thus far. We have been on Fedora for years, since version 9 when I started. Not sure if that will change, but I understand each has it's own pros and cons . We may not be able to sustain 2 OS versions over time, don't know as this is a ...

Re: shares write permission, samba speed
Also if anyone can advise me how to update NIC drivers on ubuntu server i would be very happy :) This can be complicated, depending on your hardware. We can't help you if you don't tell us what NIC you are using. 1. Most drivers (open source) come with the kernel. You update these when you update t...

Re: ubuntu+headless+desktop
Not for sure, but I would speculate Fedora will still be the top one. Ubuntu is the alternative. I don't anticipate supporting other Ubuntu versions besides LTS unless they work with no additional platform changes. We just don't have the resources to update twice a year for Ubuntu. That is why we c...

Re: ubuntu+headless+desktop
If you install Ubuntu Server, no need to do that. You can follow guidance for VNC on the server version and it will install the pieces needed. Great! When I get the time, I'll reinstall my Fedora 16 (which is working perfectly btw) with Ubuntu Server. This is IMHO the most solid up to date base for...

Nice! Thanks for your efforts.Looks like I have SABnzbdPlus sorted out for Fedora and Ubuntu. Just a few small issues we have to resolve with the app installer before I can release it.

Re: ubuntu+headless+desktop
Yep, make Amahi run at runlevel 3. Then install tigervnc (for example) and you can remote desktop into your headless amahi from you PC. That's how I have mine setup. I think everything is in the wiki. PS for Amahi devs: it would be nice if Amahi would have the VNC setup by default (with the user onl...

Re: Samba File transfer speeds
Has anyone tried copying files from ubuntu amahi server to their PC I noticed a big speed increase. In fedora I was getting transfer speeds 75MB-80MB/sec copying files from server to my PC. Now I am getting 110MB/sec. All using the same hardware, just different OS. I am very pleased with this. Same...

Re: shares write permission, samba speed
2. Writing speeds to server are in the range of 8-20 MB/sec, reading speeds are 50 MB/sec. Anything I can do to increase writing speeds? All my samba speed problems (especially the slow transfers on locally mounted shares) went away when I upgraded Fedora 14 to Fedora 16 (newer version of samba, li...

Re: Updating Sab+ from 0.6.15 to 0.7.1
SABnzbd 0.7.1 is working perfectly on Amahi Fedora 16 (as everything else, like the latest minidlna cpg said is complicated to get working: no problem at all). If you don't want to have outdated apps, don't install them from the Amahi repo. The wiki on the SABNzbd site is very easy to follow, this i...
