Re: Newbie questions - using Amahi as a Proxy?

Hmmm, I'm still running Fedora 12 and I've updated the tutorial (and added a link to the front page). I've also created a content filtering page (e.g. for parental control) with squidGuard on the wiki. The page focuses on blocking porn and adult material but you can create more/different rules such ...

Re: Blocking devices to have access to HDA server

You can use iptables to achieve this. create 2 scripts, one allowing access and one denying access and run them at the appropriate times with cron. check your logs (/var/log/messages mainly) to see what's happening.
dmesg may be of use as well but that's a ring buffer log (this means your logging is gone as soon as you reboot).

Re: Frustrating networking problem

hmm it seems there are a hung kernel tasks. These may have to do with flush buffer actions to disk. you might want to run (as root): smartcl -t short /dev/sd<?> where <?> is each disk you have (ls /dev/sd* will give you the complete list). This will run a short SMART test (replacing "short" with "lo...

Re: Memory Usage - any optimizations?

caching is nothing more than keeping files in memory so they can be given out from memory instead of from disk if requested. Since this part of RAM would otherwise be unused Linux utilises this for file caching. The philosophy is: you paid for the RAM, it consumes power so why not put it to work?

Re: Need to create a completely unattended install Disk

it should work the same on Fedora 14. you can also point to a http source for your kickstart file so if you have a local webserver you can use that too. If you're running linux or have python installed you can easily run a temporary webserver in any given directory: cd to the directory you want run:...

clonezilla is a very good tool (like ghost), also has network functionality if you're looking for that as well.
