Re: Looking for a WHS alternative, please convince me
Well im back just to update things. I decided since i "reviewed" Amahi, itd only be fair if i did the same with WHS in the same circumstances. The short of it is that i had WHS in a VM on my network visable to all computers (with its own ip) and was adding addins 2 hours after i put the di...

Re: Looking for a WHS alternative, please convince me
Well bad news is i dont think im going to continue with Amahi, i think WHS doesnt really have any viable competition now and i may be stuck using that. In all fairness im sure trying to install amahi in a VM complicated things...but i think linux in general was not meant for the average person to us...

Re: Looking for a WHS alternative, please convince me
Virtualbox and other VM's cannot virtualize a 64bit os without hardware virtualization according to VirtualBox documentation.
I have a 64bit host, but my cpu does not support hardware virtualization...32bit installed just fine.

Re: Lost network connection eth0 after install
Im pretty sure this problem stems from the fact that new users are asked to enter in their gateway and ip info on the website before they have installed Amahi, and then after they install Amahi it pulls that info even if its not the correct setup. Im facing similar issues right now, however i can ad...

Network/internet connection lost after installing Amahi
So i followed the installation instructions. After fedora finished its install, i went into terminal, logged into root, and typed 'hda-install xxxxxxx' Upto that point i had a working connection to the internet, after the system rebooted and the install was complete i no longer have an internet or n...

Re: PBA marketing stuff on Amahi.org is very misleading
I see Amahi as a competitor to Windows Home Server, which is really the level of functionality I'm looking for I have to agree with boomerang56 on this point, i personally am here looking for a free/opensource alternative to WHS. I think there are 3 major functions everyone wants from a home server...

Re: Looking for a WHS alternative, please convince me
Well virtual box seems like its fairly easy to use, i installed that, but soon found that the 4GB Fedora 10 x86-64 iso i downloaded could not install (in VM) because my cpu doesnt have VT-X or AMD-V, so im re-downloading Fedora 32 bit this time. So for anyone reading this and considering trying it i...

Re: Can Amahi work with wireless connection?
as long as you define the NIC in virtualbox to be a ethernet card it will install as an ethernet card. Virtualbox will bridge (if you choose NAT) your wifi connection to the "LAN" within virtualbox. Ok ill have to give it a try, ive never used Virtual Box so i might need some step by step...

Can Amahi work with wireless connection?
Excuse my ignorance, i just came across Amahi yesterday, and before i go through the trouble of setting up a vm and installing it to test, i want to make sure that the Amahi server itself can connect to my network wirelessly. Of course when i actually set up the real server itd be wired...but for th...
