I'm trying to help my friend get his pics off his server. He moved, has a new IP address, and doesn't know his root password. I do have an admin login though. What are my options to get his pics? I'm lost and need some help.

I was using a Comcast modem and I switched it out. When I go to my control panel, I see that my hda is stopped. I'm fairly sure, I did everything correct. I deleted my original partitions, then selected standard partition and manual. I've got it up and running and was able to reinstall my shares, by following the wiki. How can I see for sure that it is in fact standard partition?

I'm not opposed to starting over. My only concern is my data. What happens to the data on the disks? Do I add them later even though they have data on them? Can you explain how to do without loosing my data. I don't have extra discs to use.
