Re: DHCP questions

Should be fine. Depending on your usage, maybe overkill. Amahi can run on a machine on much less hardware. See the minimum hardware requirements for more info. I am running my HDA on a VM, with 3 x 1TB drives. Works fine for me. Yep I have gathered that Amahi requires less. However, the price is go...

Re: DHCP questions

I would be using CIFS. Curiosity: does the following sound like a doable setup for me? The following is from an ad: Have a Dell PowerEdge T610 server pulled from production. It's completely functional. Has the following specs: * 1 x Intel Xeon E5520 processor (quad core) - there is an empty slot for...

Re: DHCP questions

bigfoot65 - I want to thank you for helping me out with answers. However, I am still not wanting to toss in the towel on Amahi. I realize it might be overkill but then again - beyond my soho needs - it might be kind of fun to play with regarding pictures, etc. I am still wanting to know a lot more a...

Re: DHCP questions

My point was to leave your router as the DHCP server vs the HDA. Since it's on 24/7, it will ensure you can access the internet anytime regardless if the HDA is on or off. Generally speaking, what do I lose not using the HDA? I have a 4 year old Quad 2 core (Q9550) PC that I want to be an Amahi ser...

Re: DHCP questions

Based on your desire for a part time server, it's best you not use the HDA for DHCP.
What in turn do I use and how do I set it up? Is my desire to eventually set up a VPN affected?

DHCP questions

When using DHCP to make Amahi work does it cut out the router? In other words - If I have the server machine turned off will I still be able to access the internet? I will be using a Desktop PC converted into an Amahi Server. I am not really interested in the cost of electricity to run it 24/7 and I...

Did you switch to Amahi from another NAS

Relative to a small office home office network - Have any of you ever used FreeNAS and then switched to AMAHI; and since have decided you would never switch back from Amahi?

What did you not like about FreeNAS?

What makes you so pleased with Amahi in a small office home office environment?
