This might help:
#power drives down after 10 minutes idle
/sbin/hdparm -S120 /dev/sda
/sbin/hdparm -S120 /dev/sdb
You can add it to a cron job.
On my system, hdparm does not seem to be installed. Is it part of the standard installation? If not, how can I install it?

Also you can install CrashPlan desktop client on Windows/MAC and configure the HDA CrashPlan server from there. Better option than installing a desktop on a server that is not really necessary.
