No problem. The OpenVPN ALS is a clientless VPN. You install it on the HDA and access it via web browser, so nothing to install on the client. It does require Java, but most clients have that by default anyway. I did not know this lol. Thanks for the information I'll explore that option as well.

Router has no firewall and I don't think ubuntu has anything by default. Definitely no proxy that I know of. Network troubleshooter would have found any proxy I think. I thought I would tag on to this post as I am having a similar issue. Running Amahi on ubuntu 12.04 I have my HDA setup and running great within my home network.
