Left all the shares by default after the install, basically left everything by defaults, and I could not access the shares at all, same issues as when the shares were on the raid array. having a hard time getting the group concept. looking at /etc/group I see that the username used on the hda is only part of the wheel group. But not root. is this normal?

I did a clean install, and a raid rebuild at the same time. I will try a clean install but with the raid drives present and not selected. If that doesn't pan out, it will be Greyhole. The thing is I had the exact same setup with Amahi 8. And liked the fact that if I changed OS version, my raid 10 would still be there. perhaps I should have red a bit more on Greyhole. I have disk Wizard installed, and /dev/md0 D array is showing on there like a normal partition, same as sda1, sda2...

Already visited both links before posting here. The only thing I might add is that I installed Fedora and Amahi before I started the array. the HDs were physically disconnected. Once the server was up and running, I plugged them back in. Not sure if it's of any interest, otherwise, fml.
