Reboot Never Gets to Login Screen
My Amahi server stopped responding today, so I rebooted. It goes through all the usual steps without a hitch, but when it gets to where the login screen would normally appear, it seems to go into an endless loop. The cursor continues to orbit, and every 15 seconds or so the screen seems to turn off ...

Re: TightVNC Server Installation Gone Awry
Still can't connect, but I've figured out how to change users. In the upper right hand corner, it shows the name of the active user. Click on that, and it gives you the option to change users. I had to do it at least twice in order for it to actually work. Thus, I got into root and was able to comme...

TightVNC Server Installation Gone Awry
Trying to get TightVNC working so I can run headless. At first, it would connect, but all I could see were three check boxes. Then, I enabled the GUI, but the same thing happened. Next, made the change to automatically log in. Bad move. Now, I can't connect, and I can't get out of my "user"...

Re: Do I need to worry about HDD failures?
Thank you all for your advice. The HDD in my server is a WD 120Gb. I've had very good luck with WD drives, and an occasional checkup with Spinrite. But, I hear you - back it up and stop worrying! Thanks again

Do I need to worry about HDD failures?
I have my new Amahi server up and running, and I think it's great! However, I find myself worrying about the life of my HDD. I'm not used to running my computers 24/7, so it's on about 30% more than usual. I'm not so concerned about losing data (at this point). My whole home network is now based aro...

Re: How to get the server running
First, I should have mentioned that I am using Fedora 9. At the time I started this project, F10 wasn't supported yet (yes, it's been a while). Second, I haven't turned off my router's DHCP yet, because I was confused on what to do next; log in as root, or create another user, or what. Third, I did ...

How to get the server running
Once the server is completely configured and ready to go, how do we log in the server itself in order to get the server running, as root? It doesn't seem like a good idea to leave it running as root all the time, based on all the warnings about using the root login, but it's the only user available....

Re: Recurring update failure
Check out the "Failed to Update System Error" post: http://forums.amahi.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=282
It deals with this situation. Yes, it is a Fedora issue, but these Amahi guys are absolutely amazing
. Why anyone would want to go with WHS is beyond me.

"Failed to Update System" Error
I just finished installing Fedora 9. There are five security updated that need to be installed. When I try to install them, I get: Failed to Update System. The error was: org.freedesktop.packagekit.update- system auth_admin_keep_always Any ideas what might be wrong? I tried a second complete install...
