Re: Timemachine backups with Amahi

If your that worried i'd also suggest looking at the crashplan app for amahi. I paid $160 for 4 years worth of unlimited storage for one PC and have my macs backing up through time machine to amahi and windows PC's backing to amahi with crashplan which is free, then crashplan on my amahi server back...

Re: Timemachine backups with Amahi

That sounds right. When drive starts filling up it deletes the oldest backups first. From my experience on my wifes mac book air, it has 128GB drive and 40B is actually used. A months worth of backups are taking up about 22GB of time machine storage. She mostly uses it for internet browsing and her ...

Re: Network wide site block with Amahi hosts file?

DNS Server doesn't work that way. Most machines look to an internal file the hosts file for name resolution then to a DNS server. So it makes sense it works on the server you changed the hosts file on, but the DNS server running on that host has a different file it's using for the DNS resolution. Bi...

Re: CrashPlan Install

My favorite and I think the easiest way to do X-forwarding is to use Xming server on windows and then SSH 3.2.9 client which is free and you'll have to create a profile and then edit the profile. In edit mode put in the host your connecting to, aka your amahi server, and the user name. Then click on...

Re: iSCSI

Great work for iSCSI target. I was wondering if you know how to setup an initiator and connect an existing LUN to Amahi. I've just ordered and am looking to build a storage appliance and using NexentaStor for the OS. Then I'm going to build a VM server and use Xen.org's XCP which is esentially the s...

Re: Network & Internet Connection Unreliable

You may have DNS conflicts with machines. Any machine with a Static IP setup would need to have DNS pointing to amahi server and DHCP machines and network attached devices may need to be rebooted to get a new DHCP lease from amahi. If you didn't turn off your router's DHCP or another DHCP server on ...

Re: Amahi Drive planning

Anyone else have thoughts on swap? The only other concern I've seen for swap is more on a user work station when if you ever want to do a hibernate you need a swap space equal to the size of ram for the ram to copy to the swap space. The nice part about that is then you don't have to worry about th...

Re: Just getting started with Amahi - first question - using

That is great I was unaware of that project, but per their site, "Please keep in mind the current 0.5.2 stable release does not yet support a mountable filesystem. This functionality is currently available only in the 0.6.0-rc6 release candidate." So you probably wont be able to make it yo...
