So I could turn off dhcp in both the modem and the AP, connect everything to the AP and configure amahi to use the modem as the gateway? That way the modem and the printer would be on their own networks, right?

Could you post the Cisco model number of your router? Does the Cisco router have multiple LAN ports? If so, you could use it to route to all of your wired computers. You could then set up your second router as an AP to use only for wireless. If the Cisco router doesn't have enough ports, perhaps yo...

It's the cablemodem, and the telco won't change it. I don't know why, but the fact is that is crashes if I try to change its IP.What is the purpose of the cisco router?? why can't you change it without it crashing?? why the complex setup?
