Re: Fedora transition - voice your opinion!

I don't know enough about Linux to have a solid opinion, but Fedora is a proven loser (because, no longer getting support -- that is a proven loss). It sounds (from other people's remarks), Ubuntu or CentOS, whichever hits the sweet spot of ease-of-transition and expected lifetime of support.

Gallery3

Has two bugs that caused me to uninstall it. Bug #1. It insists on copying file into its own private database instead of using symlinks. There's an RFE for this, about TWO YEARS OLD. Note that this is half of why I uninstalled the app -- if I give up in frustration, that means it needs a higher prio...

Re: I cant get this app to run. Has anyone it really working

It worked for me with a few tunes, then I upgraded to six and loaded several thousands mp3s in. It's still running and reports "too many to show", but it gets the number wrong, and searching doesn't seem to work.

Ampache, does it work for anyone?

I installed it, I lit it up, there's a pile of music (in the form /var/hda/files/music/ARTIST/ALBUM/track.mp3) and as far as Ampache is concerned, there is no music.

Presumably I'm not doing anything it perceives as wrong, because it gave me no error messages or advice.

Re: password length

I agree, a 12-character password limit is unacceptably short. Rainbow tables would make short work of that. And how do we sync up the Linux and Samba users? Can they both use LDAP? (And understand, though I have a propeller-beanie-hat I can wear, I am viewing this as a customer. Why should I need to...

Re: retroactively adding password protection to a webapp

I second this request; I find the documentation for using webmin to set up password protection to be not entirely intuitive (that's diplomatic-speak for WTF-confusing). In particular: In “Directory path” browse to/or enter the path to the ‘html’ web directory you wish to protect I am guessing, from ...
