Re: Enclosures
It almost looks like it would be cheaper to just buy a used HP Mediasmart server than buying an enclosure that can fit that many drives. Have people had a decent experience converting these to Amahi?

Re: Enclosures
As near as I can tell, an eSata PCI card might be faster. Do you have spare SATA connectors on your motherboard? You could use cables to reach those externally. I don't think the box has any internal SATA connectors actually. I could be wrong it's been a while since I've had it open but I think it'...

Re: Enclosures
Nice to know. Thanks. I won't be using the card that comes with that Rosewill one I linked to. It's PCI-Express and the box I will be using only has PCI so I'll have to get a different card. I mostly just want an enclosure I can put a bunch of drives in.

Enclosures
I am considering running Amahi on an older PC I have in my house that has not been getting a lot of use lately. I'd like to add storage too it but it really doesn't have a lot of internal space for that so I'm going to have to add an external enclosure in order to get the kind of storage capacity I ...

Re: DNS/DHCP
I saw the information on FAQ. I guess I just don't know enough about the networking side of things to understand if those features are things that I will take advantage of or not and/or what effect that will have on the other machines on my network. I'm particularly concerned with how that effects t...

DNS/DHCP
This is not meant as a complaint it's a genuine question. I don't know a lot about networking so I'm trying to understand why I would want Amahi to handle DHCP instead of my router. Could someone break that down a little bit for me? Also, does this just make my router, essentially, a switch? Are the...

Re: Amahi on Virtualbox
Ok, I have been considering FreeNAS as well. I do have another box I could put Amahi on but it doesn't have room for the storage. If I did want to go with Amahi is it possible to have it installed on one box but save to the drives on another?

Re: Amahi on Virtualbox
Could those features, possibly, not be used. My primary interest in this is for NAS features serving files over my home network to other clients and backing up the other PCs on the network. I really don't know a lot about servers though so maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing.

Amahi on Virtualbox
I have a Windows 7 PC with a massive amount of storage (6.5TB). When I built it I had considered going with something like WHS and had actually tested a trial version of that but decided against it because I wanted Mediacenter to be able to use the extender feature that go along with that and to pla...
