I have an idea but you'll have to give me a few weeks to reply. I only have one hand to type atm (got out of surgery today) and it's too much to type with one hand my response. There is a way using cron, find, and other standard unix tools.

Re: Many, but somewhat simple new install questions
SAM,thank you for the great advice. At the end you said you hoped it wasn't to long winded.... Please, be long winded. I will power wind turbines with my expanded speech to any user who wishes to know more! radioz hits the nail right on the head for your first two questions. I'll elaborate on what ...

Re: Orphaned, empty folders do not get deleted on fsck
A fsck wouldn't do that because an empty folder (or folder full of dead symlinks) is not a filesystem error.

Re: Orphaned, empty folders do not get deleted on fsck
Hi, I noticed that one of the folders I once had and then deleted still exists in the samba share. It does not exists anymore indeed in the greyhole directories, but it does exists in the share. I ran an fsck but that didn't remove. Here's a bash log to illustrate what I mean. I'm not sure what eve...

Re: Many, but somewhat simple new install questions

Re: accessing apps over vpn
What browser are you using? If it's Chrome use Firefox. I have the same trouble with Chrome.
It doesn't resolve the DNS correctly because it thinks you want to search google with a word.

the point is..
Not everyone is a Linux guru. Normal people would look at a terminal and panic. The whole point behind the install code is to configure your system based on settings you choose during the setup process. If for instance you want your network to be 192.168.1.x then you get an install code. If you want...

Battle of data transfers!
When I copy movies off of my HDA to my laptop I get 109MB/s reading my share. When I write to my share I get 55MB/s. How do I achieve this? Gigabit ethernet RAID 5 array of 3 disks server side. 256GB SSD (Crucial C300) client side. For read copy a large file off of your SMB share and look at the dat...
