gh/Graveyard
I probably going to regret asking this... but as I've not found a book called "The complete Muppet guide to greyhole" that explains in picture drawings so I shall ask the question :) The graveyard folder has files in it. Is this good, bad, normal or an artefact from a previous install as s...

Re: Vista Home Premium (64 bit) backup problems
umm...FAT32? why? I don't think the manufactures are completely daft formatting them Fat32. A there are a few variants of Fat32 to support larger fat tables and drive LBAs. They market these things as an easy to use plug 'n' prey convenience device to recycle their low spec hard drives to copy zill...

Re: trying to create dual boot system with acronis os select
I have a triple boot for system of XP, Win7 and Linux which may offer you some clues. I have no idea as I don't use Acronis. But using the GRUB in the linux of choice may work out easer for you in the long run than setting up the /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-server and the /boot/initrd.img required to bo...

I'm no expert but I see no "\\Hda\Movies Microsoft Windows Network:", try disconnecting the share in XP and just try mapping H:as "\\hda\Movies:" ?

Re: Amahi seems to go to sleep
Possibly a green or lan wake feature of your motherboard.
My old motherboard used to do it until I switch the LAN wake feature off, but I cant remember who made it. If hardware sensor service wasn't enabled in the LAN went to sleep after a while.

Accessing HDA shares on SuSE 114
Never could get Suse to NFS share with Fedora. But here is a quick hack to you can put in the /etc/fstab to allow you access your HDA shared folders with out all the mucking out with mount commands every time you reboot. This method is insecure but a script could be used to hash the password. Create...

Re: remote desktop hacked
Sorry to hear you got hit. Casting an inexperienced eye over the log I see few clues as to how it happened. Doesn't sound like an Amahi problem so I can only quote a few tips to help you with the Micro$oft end. I can only assume it was a windows hack and the log is perhaps from a linux machine. Its ...

Re: No HDA on WiFi ?
Thanks Guys, I now have it working, but not after another battle. I sacked the two routers :) But I must confess I hate to be defeated and Mudge had a brilliant solution. I changed ISP and got a free 'modem/router/wifi' hub into the deal. HDA on secure wifi, worked a treat... hmmmm but the VPN faile...

Re: When Amahi seems like a bad idea
Hi lou1z, When I originally wrote this article I was frustrated to the hell with integrating it into the role of my original server functions. The setup had worked faithfully for years until suddenly the hardware gave out. As a fallback I used started to use Amahi as it was intended when my main wor...

Re: Anyone using CrashPlan?
jammastercd, I have the same problem of the dashboard showing Crashplan had stopped but still working fine. In fact Crashpan saved my butt (or data to be more accurate ). I was waiting for the trial account to expire to report any drawbacks. Meanwhile I purchased 3 x Seagate 1TBs drives to replace o...
