Can't access media server across Amahi network

In preparation for the Amahi version of MediaTomb, I've installed MediaTomb on my desktop Linux machine to try it out. However, my DLNA TV (Sony Bravia) can't see the MediaTomb server, even though it quite happily sees the Amahi DLNA server. Why is this? The TV has an IP address and I can ping it fr...

Re: Can't access Amahi DLNA from TV

I know this won't help very much, but it works OK on my Bravia TV at home. Some things to check: Do you have any DLNA shared folders set up? The TV only shows them, rather than being able to browse all of Amahi. The Amahi DLNA shared folders should show up under the 'Photos', 'Video' and 'Music' sec...

Re: DLNA and mp3 tags

This may not, but you could try using the 'albumartist' tag. Albumartist is designed to cover this exact situation, where an album has multiple artists. I tag all my compilations with an albumartist of 'Various'. This allows me to group them correctly using Rockbox (an MP3 player firmware replacemen...

Re: Problem with startx

Isn't that by (Linux) design?

I run my Amahi server headless by reducing the runlevel setting. It is my understanding that doing that prohibits X from starting, because X needs a higher runlevel than I am currently using.

Re: Looking for a php app that would work like sharefile.com

How about FileThingie? It is a single PHP file that does everything. http://www.solitude.dk/filethingie What is File Thingie? File Thingie is a small web-based file manager written in PHP. It is intended for those who need to give others access to a part of their server's file system when FTP is not...

Re: DHCP and DNS OK for wired, but wireless Wii does not get

Well, i've investigated as much as I am going to with the following results (but no solution :( ): My Wii is set up to pick up DNS servers automatically (from the Amahi DHCP server) Neither hda or http://hda are resolved, returning the OpenDNS error page home.com returns a straightforward 404-Page n...

Re: DHCP and DNS OK for wired, but wireless Wii does not get

Do you have other systems on your network and can they resolve http://hda to your hda properly? Yes, as I said above, other PCs on the network resolve all the local addresses without problems That sounds exactly like what will happen if the Wii is NOT getting its dns from your HDA. Have you checked...

Re: Port forwarded and installed HDAConnect but not working

Is your router also set up as a firewall? Port forwarding does not open a hole in the firewall, it only redirects a packet once it has come through the firewall. On my home router, I had to set up a firewall 'rule' to indicate that any packets from the internet reqesting access on a particular port ...

Re: Jinzora on Wii?

I'm not sure what's happening, but I'm having the exact same problem (http://forums.amahi.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1512)

It seems to me that the Wii cannot resolve local addresses in the local domain, but I've not finished investigating this yet.

Re: What's the best distro for Amahi?

Good hardware detection is a must, but for use as a dedicated server, this really only extends to motherboards, memory, drives (inc. RAID etc.), network and wireless cards plus basic mouse and monitor drivers. Recent Linux distros using kernel 2.6 have, as I understand it, already lost a fair amount...
